Multiple award-winning rapper Drake has taken to Instagram to clear the air about explosive lyrics he used in reference to billionaire Kylie Jenner.
For months, there have been speculations that the 33-year-old rapper and 22-year-old Kylie are an item and Drake seemingly referenced that in a clip that surfaced on Wednesday.
In the teaser for his unreleased material, Drake made references to Kylie Jenner as well as her sister Kendall and their pal Gigi Hadid.
As he performed alongside Future, he rapped to his followers on an Instagram Live set:
“Yeah, I’m a hater to society / Real s***, Kylie Jenner that’s a side piece / Yeah, I got 20 m*********’ Kylies,” he rapped to his followers.
Soon after, Drake released a statement on Instagram where he explained that the clip was three years old. The Canadian also appeared to express regret, admitting he didn’t want to ‘disrespect’ his friends.
“A song that mark ran last night on night owl sound live set shouldn’t have been played.
“It’s a song that leaked 3 years ago and got scrapped shortly after. He was just going too deep in the drake/future catalogue. Last thing I’d want to do is wake up having any friends of mine feeling disrespected so I just had to say that to start the day.”
Rumours started making the rounds that the rapper and beauty business mogul were an item when they were seen getting cosy at his birthday party last year. At the time a source explained to Hollywood Life that the duo was not prepared for a relationship.
“Kylie is enjoying Drake’s company, she thinks he’s funny and attractive but that’s where it stops for the moment.”
Drake is a close friend to the Kardashian-Jenner family and even performed at Kylie’s 16th birthday.
Kylie who is currently self-isolating with her daughter Stormi as well as her ex-boyfriend Travis Scott is yet to make a comment over the lyric.
