An activist, one Kenechukwu Okeke, has initiated criminal proceedings against 50 persons at the Chief Magistrate’s court in Abuja, alleging that they promoted the “EndSARS riots.
He disclosed this in a tweet on Tuesday.
Those sued include the Senior Pastor, Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, Aisha Yesufu, Bureau for Public Sector Reform, Dr Joe Abah; investigative reporter, Kiki Mordi, Folarin Falana (Falz) and others.
In his allegation, he claimed that the defendants influenced the violent turnout of the protest which led to the destruction of his property.
“That 1 to 50 accused persons with intent to carry out some common purpose, assemble in such a manner, Or, being assembled under the composition of EndSARS”, as to cause persons in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to fear on reasonable grounds that such assembly needlessly and without any reasonable occasion may provoke other persons tumultuously to disturb the peace.
a. Properties (movable) belonging to the complainant was egregiously destroyed by some riotous and tumultuous person (s) instigated and incited by the 1 to 50″ accused persons,” he stated in his complaint.
Recall that many Nigerians had criticized the brutality of some officials of the Nigeria Police Force.
This led to the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, which has now been replaced with the Special Weapons And Tactical Team(SWAT).
The protest was however hijacked by hoodlums who took to the streets to wreak havoc.
On his part, President Muhammadu Buhari had noted that while protest is a fundamental right, the activities of hoodlums must be dealt with.
