Following the prolonged strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the federal government says it will pay 65 billion naira as revitalisation fund and earned allowances for lecturers.
Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige, made this known on Friday, following its meeting with the union, in Abuja, Channels Television reports.
If ASUU accepts the federal government offer, it may call off the strike which had lasted nearly 9 months.
earlier reported that the federal government had proposed 20bn as against ASUU’s 110 revitalisation fund demand.
“We offered N20 billion as revitalization fund. On earned academic allowances (EAA), the government offered N30 billion to all the unions in the universities, making it N50 billion altogether,” he had said.
Recall that a contentious issue between ASUU and the federal government has been the payment platform suitable for the union.
However, Ngige said that while ASUU’s UTAS payment platform is being tested, the federal government would pay lecturers through other means aside IPPIS.
