DO YOU AGREE? The Headies Award Has Outlived It Usefulness In The Nigerian Music Industry

Last I made a comment that The Headies Award is as useless as semen. Hahaha that’s a figure of speech tho, such trash show cannot be compared with our almighty SEMEN.😜🙄🤣

Popular Definition: A music award is an award or prize given for skill or distinction in music. In a simple term, to acknowledge and appreciate Artistes achievements in the music industry.

The Headies is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. It is usually broadcast live on HipTV to viewers across Nigeria. However, the award has outlived it usefulness in the Nigerian music industry.

Let’s start with the technical issues last night. It was so fvcked and messed up to a point I started wondering if I’m viewing upgraded NTA news channel or a low budget Grammy Awards show. Ómó HipTv na trash. Instead of upgrading they’re degrading. Anyways, that’s by the way.🚶

Sorry to say this, I literally stopped watching the show the moment Laycon ascended the stage looking like a frustrated clown.

Or is it Bella Shmurda that CAME multiple times to embarrass his village people yet couldn’t win the least bottle water. A simple question, “Bella why are you here?” Bella: I CAME here to chill yunno, I didn’t CAME here for the award. Wtf 😂

The Headies of 2006-2016 is totally different from the Headies of today and what was showcased last night. From my end, what I saw last night, was some group of kindergarten kids playing, singing and dancing in the playground.

How about the voting processes? I don’t wanna talk about it tho, fvcked up!

Timaya, alongside rapper and activist Eedris Abdulkareem receiving special recognition awards for their impact on the music industry, and highlife legend King Sunny Ade inducted into the Headies Hall of Fame was the only moment I felt pleased.

Then Comedian Bovi attire in remembrance of the unlawful massacred #EndSars protesters at the Lekki Tollgate by the Nigeria Army on the 10th Oct, 2020. May their gentle souls keep resting in peace-AMEN!😔

✔️Back then…when the 1st edition was held on 10 March 2006, at the Shell Hall of the MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos. Hosted by Darey Art Alade and tagged with the caption: “The Revolution is Here”

✔️The 2nd edition was hosted by D’banj and Tana. Held on 17 March 2007 at the Muson Center for the second consecutive year.

✔️The 3rd edition was hosted by comedian Basketmouth and Nollywood actress Dakore Egbuson. Held on 15 March 2008 at Planet One in Maryland, Lagos. Themed “Change has to Change”.

✔️The 4th edition was hosted by Banky W. and Kemi Adetiba.Took place on 16 May 2009 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

✔️The 5th edition took place on 16 May 2009 at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. The ceremony was conducted without a host for the first time.

✔️The 6th edition was held on 22 October 2011 at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Hosted by Rita Dominic and eLDee, the award’s name was officially changed to “The Headies”. Note that it was initially “The Hip Hop World Awards”. Indomie generation no dey aware sha.🤣

✔️The 7th edition of The Headies was hosted by M.I and Omawumi. The ceremony took place on 20 October 2012, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Chidinma opened the show by performing her song “Kedike”.
The aforementioned hosts thrilled fans and shutdown the show with their song titled “The Headies”.

✔️The 8th edition of The Headies took on 26 December 2013, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.The show was hosted by Tiwa Savage and Dr SID.

✔️The 9th edition of The Headies took place on 14 December 2014, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Themed “Feel the Passion”, the show was hosted by Toke Makinwa and Basketmouth.

✔️The 10th edition of The Headies was held on 1 January 2016 at the Landmark Events Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.Themed “Flip the Script”, the event was hosted by Bovi and Kaffy.

✔️The 11th edition of The Headies was held on 22 December 2016 at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. Themed “Think, Create, Recreate”, the event was hosted by Adesua Etomi and Falz.

❌The 12th, 13th and 14th edition which took place last night became child’s play. Everything kukuma spoil kpatakpata. Go through the aforementioned editions, the nominees and winners, and you’d agree with me that The Headies is worthless right now. Artistes no longer give a middle finger about it unlike before.
