Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives yesterday, Saturday 21st of November, paid a visit to the family of the newspaper vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke, who was shot dead by one of his security aides in Abuja.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday, 18th November and has received many mixed reactions from the public since. Okereke was shot dead by the SSS operative close to the National Assembly.
He was declared dead upon arriving at the national hospital after his colleagues rushed him there for medical treatment after being hit by the bullet.
Included in the speaker’s entourage to the dead vendor’s family was the spokesperson of the house, Benjamin Kalu, alongside other aides. Mr Gbajabiamila went ahead to condole with the wife and family of the late vendor at Kwata village, Madalla-Suleja in Niger State.
Present at the home of the deceased were members of the Association of Newspapers Distributors who were led by their president, Benjamin Obute. Mr Gbajabiamila went ahead to assure that the deceased’s immediate family will be taken care of while promising that that justice will be served.
Vowing that he would not let the matter slide, Mr Gbajabiamila disclosed that the security aide called Abdullahi Hassan who is responsible for Okereke’s death has been remanded in SSS custody following the incident and calls for justice.
